How to Change Registered Agents in Connecticut

A situation may arise that prompts you to change your registered agent. Perhaps you are unsatisfied with your registered agent and would like to try one of the providers we recommend. Maybe your registered agent will no longer reside in the state, or you have moved out of state.

Whatever your reason, there is a simple procedure for changing your registered agent in Connecticut:

1. Fill Out a Change of Agent Form

Connecticut LLCs must complete Form BUS-09: Change of Agent in order to officially update their registered agent with the Connecticut Secretary of State. This can be done online, by mail, or in person, along with the nonrefundable $50 fee.

To add a registered agent service as your new point of contact, complete sections 1 and 3 as directed, then complete section 2B of the Change of Agent form (“If Agent Is a Business”). A representative acting on behalf of the service will need to sign their consent to appointment.

2. Allow Change to Process

Your submitted form must be processed by the Secretary of State for your change to be official. This process can take days, or even weeks, depending on the time of year, volume of submissions and other factors. To speed up processing times, we recommend filing online.

You may also request expedited processing for an additional $50 fee.

Once your Change of Agent form is processed, you will receive confirmation from the Secretary of State. This means that all service of process will now be sent to your new agent.

Northwest

Looking for a reliable and affordable registered agent service? Northwest’s experienced team will make sure your documents are filed correctly (and on time) so you can focus on running your business. Plus, their low annual price makes them a great value for your money.
