What is your #1 piece of advice for startup founders?
“Significance will most often follow the path and depth of relationships — you can not do this alone so start developing and deepening your relationships while in "pre-startup" mode.”
What is the best method you've found to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur?
“To be significant, stay within your rails and head North, don’t go left and right to chase shiny objects – resist being a generalist”
What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?
“You are only as good as you invoice and collect; anything other than that is an expensive hobby. Net — find a solution to a problem that a complete stranger will be willing to pay for.”
What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?
“Look ahead and stay true to your vision while listening to your customers and mentors — you will never succeed while living in the past (note to self: this does not mean that you do not learn from your past).”
What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?
“Culture matters – it is at the top of the business food chain, and it has a shelf life, so make sure you are always nurturing and feeding your culture.”
What is your advice for entrepreneurs seeking funding for the first time?
“Always ask for money when you do not need it — if you ask when you need it, then the sharks will smell blood, and you be operating from a position of weakness. It's like buying a car — you have to be able to walk away and wait for the right deal.”
