Any entrepreneur can tell you, launching a startup is a learning process. Therefore, one of the best things you can do prior to launching a startup of your own is to learn from those who have blazed the trail. Henriette Fleischmann, founder of AI startup Hosta A.I., shared valuable insights during our interview that will inspire and motivate aspiring entrepreneurs.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

“Don't give up. It's a long journey; persistence is key. And make sure you have fun while doing it.”

What is the best method you've found to avoid burnout as an entrepreneur?

“Hitting big milestones is extremely rewarding and making sure to celebrate them with the entire team. Personally, it's essential to treat your body well.”

What is your advice for coming up with a unique startup idea?

“Not sure it always needs to be unique. Starting our journey at MIT definitely helped with the uniqueness, though.

It's more about understanding a market problem and finding a better solution than currently exists. And testing that quickly with different potential customers.”

What is your advice for overcoming challenges and failure?

“Maintain a close group of strongly supportive people and talk about it and make sure they lift you up. These could be other founders, friends, or your partner.

And then start shifting your mindset. Every lost customer is a learning point for your product, for how you sell, for how you position your company.”

What is the biggest lesson you learned and what can aspiring entrepreneurs take from it?

“Make sure you get the right people on board as early as possible — right people meaning that you need to have people who support you in proving your product market. And help them grow, be clear on expectations, [and] don't be afraid to bring on new people who might be more senior so the company can reach its next inflection point. The person you need to be most honest with is yourself.”

What is the best advice you've ever received?

“You can, you will, you do! (my father).”
